Miguel de la Quadra-Salcedo: admirer of the makila and Basque craftsmanship.
Miguel de la Quadra-Salcedo y Gayarre, renowned Spanish reporter, cultural promoter and athlete specialized in throwing events, was also a passionate admirer of Basque craftsmanship. Among his greatest admirations was the work of master artisan Iñaki Alberdi, one of the most respected makila makers in the Basque Country.
His appreciation for tradition led him to acquire more than one traditional Basque makila at the Alberdi workshop, valuing not only its functionality as a Basque walking stick, but also its deep symbolism of respect, identity and cultural legacy.
Through gestures like this, Miguel de la Quadra-Salcedo strengthened his bond with Basque roots and with the excellence of handmade makila production in medlar wood, an art that remains alive at Alberdi Makila.
