A gesture of appreciation for his interest in Basque craftsmanship

During the filming of “The Pyrenees with Michael Portillo” for the British channel Channel 5, politician and presenter Michael Portillo received a traditional Basque makila as a token of appreciation for his interest in Basque craftsmanship.

He expressed particular admiration for the makila and for the artisanal work carried out in our workshop, Alberdi Makila. This unique piece, crafted using makila manufacturing techniques passed down through generations, represents the authentic traditional Basque walking stick, a symbol of identity, respect, and cultural pride.

At Alberdi Makila, as a makila manufacturer and creator of Basque walking sticks, we are honoured that our tradition and craftsmanship are showcased by international media and recognised figures such as Michael Portillo. Every personalised makila we create carries with it a story and a piece of the Basque Country.
