A tribute to Basque culture, music, and craftsmanship

Fermín Muguruza, a renowned Basque musician and a symbol of Basque culture, began his international tour at the Bilbao Arena in Miribilla, proudly carrying a makila and a Basque walking stick presented to him by the konpartsa Hau Pittu Hau. This gesture, marking the celebration of his 40-year career, symbolises his life journey and his commitment to the identity of his people.

From his early days with Kortatu and Negu Gorriak to his solo projects, Fermín Muguruza has been an ambassador for Basque music, language, and traditions. Showcasing the makila on stage was not only an aesthetic choice but also a statement of respect for Basque craftsmanship and the cultural heritage it represents.

At Alberdi Makila, as a makila manufacturer and creator of traditional Basque walking sticks, we are proud that our pieces are part of such significant cultural and historical moments. Our makilas are produced using makila manufacturing techniques passed down through generations, blending tradition and quality to preserve the heritage of the Basque Country.

The presence of a traditional Basque makila at an international music event proves that craftsmanship and culture can travel hand in hand, keeping a people’s essence alive while sharing it with the world.
