The newspaper Noticias de Gipuzkoa has published a feature on Alberdi Makila, written by journalist Anabel Domínguez, highlighting the tradition, cultural meaning and artisanal process of the Basque makila.
The article, titled “Giving a makila is telling someone how much you appreciate them”, showcases our workshop in Irun and the work we carry out as makers of traditional Basque walking sticks, keeping alive an ancestral craft based on fully handmade production.
The Basque makila is one of the most representative symbols of Basque craftsmanship. At Alberdi Makila, each piece is individually crafted using carefully selected medlar wood, following traditional methods passed down through generations.

This recognition in the press reinforces the cultural value of the makila and the artisanal work carried out by our family over three generations in Irun.
