A symbol of leadership, tradition, and Basque craftsmanship

In 2025, a very special moment took place: the presentation of a makila, the ultimate traditional Basque walking stick, to Aitor Esteban, President of the PNV. This act highlights the historical and cultural significance of the makila and makilas in the identity of the Basque Country, representing leadership, honour, and tradition.

The makila, crafted using makila manufacturing techniques passed down through generations, is far more than a simple Basque walking stick. It is a symbol of respect, pride, and deep connection to one’s roots.

At Alberdi Makila, as a makila manufacturer, we proudly continue this centuries-old tradition. Our artisans are dedicated to the manufacture of makilas and Basque walking sticks of the highest quality, paying attention to every detail to ensure each piece is unique. Every traditional Basque makila we create is the result of meticulous work and deep respect for Basque craftsmanship.

The presentation of this traditional Basque makila to such a prominent figure as Aitor Esteban is not only a personal tribute, but also an homage to the history and cultural heritage of the Basque people. With every makila that leaves our workshop, we send a piece of our culture into the world, preserving and passing on its values to future generations.
